Depression Therapy

Are You Tired Of Depression Holding You Back In Life?

Do you feel like your life lacks meaning and purpose?

Has depression started to negatively impact your daily functioning?

Do you find yourself isolating more and putting your social life on the backburner?

Some days, maybe it’s an enormous struggle just to get out of bed and go to work. Although you want to engage in life and spend time with others, depression tells you that it’s not worth it. As a result, you may end up sleeping more, going out less, and neglecting self-care. For the first time, you might ask yourself if it’s time to see a therapist who treats depression.

Depression Takes Away The Energy And Motivation You Need To Overcome It

Other people may tell you to “get out more” and “stop being depressed.” Unfortunately, it isn’t that simple. Depression inherently limits your ability to feel energized and motivated enough to change your life. So instead of taking steps to better yourself, you may fall back on the same old negative coping skills and resist seeking help.

Thankfully, you don’t have to try and manage your symptoms by yourself. Through my compassionate and empowering approach to therapy, you can learn new strategies for stabilizing your mood, reducing your depression, and taking back control of your life.

Depression Is A Universal Human Experience

In fact, just about everyone experiences depression at some point in their life. Like any other mental health condition, it exists on a spectrum—some forms of depression are mild and others are serious. Oftentimes, it’s brought on by negative circumstances like illness, divorce, loneliness, abuse, or the death of a loved one.

In other cases, however, depression persists independently of circumstances. It becomes pathological and starts to control your decision-making, limiting your ability to socialize, be productive, and enjoy life. When this happens, it’s a sign of a more serious mood disorder and generally means that it’s best to seek treatment.

Depression Often Goes Hand In Hand With Low Self-Worth

People struggling with clinical depression generally have a negative view of themselves. They often fear criticism from the outside and suffer from perceptions of self-judgment. Even when other people may not be viewing them negatively, they still imagine themselves as unworthy, unattractive, or unlovable.

On your own, it’s incredibly hard to overcome these negative self-perceptions. But with the help of an experienced therapist, you can learn to see your depression in a clearer light and prevent it from clouding your view of yourself.

Therapy Can Help You Break Free From The Downward Spiral Of Depression

Depression thrives in isolation—the more you keep to your own devices, the harder it is to maintain perspective and avoid spiraling down. That’s why relationships are the greatest antidote to depression. A therapeutic relationship can act as the catalyst for change in your life. It can give you hope for the future and allow you to evaluate your situation with fresh eyes.

As someone who’s experienced in treating depression, I want to help you stabilize your mood, achieve a growth-oriented mindset, and reconnect with your full potential. Depression may be incredibly frustrating to live with, but it doesn’t define you and it doesn’t have to hold you back in life. My goal is to help you realize this for yourself.

What To Expect In Depression Counseling Sessions

My approach is not overly theoretical; it is more focused on building relationships. By creating a foundation of mutual trust and understanding, I allow my clients to feel seen, heard, and appreciated for who they are. When this happens, it becomes much easier to increase the motivation and energy necessary to combat depression.

What’s more, my approach is always tailored to the needs of each client. After all, everyone’s experience of depression is different. If depression makes it hard for you to regulate your emotions, we can work on relaxation skills to help you stay mindful and grounded. And if you find that depression hurts your social life and inhibits your ability to form new connections, we’ll explore ways to boost your confidence and take advantage of new opportunities.

Additionally, I want to help you work through the negative thought patterns that so often arise from depression. You’ll learn to question beliefs like “I’m not good enough” or “I’ll never be successful” and arrive at a more positive and empowering view of yourself.

In the end, the long-term goals of depression therapy are mood stabilization, increased self-esteem, and healthy application of coping skills. My hope is that you’ll be able to go about life with a renewed sense of confidence and have the skills to manage your depression symptoms outside of treatment.

You May Have Some Concerns About Clinical Depression Therapy…

I don’t think I’ll feel comfortable talking about my depression.

My sessions go at a gentle pace. There’s absolutely no pressure to open up right away. The first step is simply creating an atmosphere of safety, respect, and understanding. When that’s done, you may find that it’s much easier to discuss your struggles. Many clients have been exactly where you are, only to find that talking to a therapist takes a burden off their shoulders and allows them to feel more at ease.

I’ve been depressed my whole life and I don’t think that will change.

It’s very normal to feel this way. After all, depression has a way of clouding your perspective and making things feel bleaker than they really are. Feeling like nothing will change is actually a symptom of depression itself. But even if you’re truly convinced that your depression won’t go away, wouldn’t you rather try and see if another way of life is possible? With the right therapeutic care, I believe that you can absolutely release the grip that depression has on your life.

I’m not sure I have the time or money for therapy.

Your time is valuable and so are your finances. That said, you probably wouldn’t avoid going to the doctor if you had a physical ailment negatively impacting your functioning. I encourage you to treat your emotional wellbeing with the same level of care. Depression therapy is an investment that can pay dividends for years to come. When your mental health benefits, every other area of your life generally benefits as well.
